Pilani is known as the “City of Education” and a centre of excellence in the educational sector. Birla School, Pilani is widely known as BIRLA HIGH SCHOOL and is not only the oldest but also the premier and pioneer educational institution in Pilani. The school’s transformation has been quite fascinating to watch. For Shri G.D.’s grandkids’ schooling. Birla and Shri R.D. Birla, Seth Shiv Narayan Ji Birla planted a small seedling called “Pathshala” in 1901. Since then, it has grown into a huge banyan tree with many branches (educational institutions). The “Pathshala” continued to operate as a primary school for more than 20 years before being upgraded to a middle school in 1922, when the first class of students debuted in 1924. It was a pivotal moment. Following a lull, the institution began to see significant expansion. The U. P. Board of Education designated the institution as a high school in 1925 and an intermediate college in 1929. The school was given the title of “Multipurpose Higher Secondary School” in July 1958. The school adopted a 10+2 pattern of education in 1975-76 in its 9th class and the first batch was introduced at the All-India Secondary School Examination, CBSE in March 1977. The ‘plus two stages’ (Senior Secondary) under the new pattern was introduced the same year and the first batch under the system passed out in 1979. Since then, the school has consistently earned first divisions and “A” grades and has produced exceptional outcomes. The well-known and resourceful Birla Education Trust, Pilani, founded in 1929, is in charge of managing and operating the institution. It has already celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1951, the Diamond Jubilee in 1961, the Platinum Jubilee in 1976, and it is Centenary in 2001. Eminent illustrious personalities like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Radhakrishnan, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, C. Rajagopalachari, the Chief Justice, government officials, and a variety of other notable figures have taken part in its events either directly or by sending warm welcomes and messages.
